The latest collection from Richard Mille, the RM 07-04 is being marketed as the hyper-luxe brand’s first ever women’s sports watch (implying none of their previous women’s collections have been sports watches, which doesn’t seem entirely accurate to me). That’s borne out in the fact each of the six watches is dedicated to six of RM’s female sporting ambassadors, such as Nafi Thiam – the on-track rival to British legends Jessica Ennis-Hill and Katarina Johnson-Thompson. However, when it comes down to it, there’s nothing about the RM 07-04 that’s overtly feminine and it could just as easily be described as Richard Mille’s latest ultra-light sports watch.

Ultra-light really is the key factor here because the entire watch, including the strap, weighs just 36g. This has been achieved through the use of a handful of cutting-edge materials throughout the watch. Five of the six watches have cases made from Quartz TPT and the sixth is Carbon TPT, both of which are incredibly lightweight while maintaining strength and durability. For those wondering, Quartz TPT and Carbon TPT are produced with the same technique but the Quartz version uses silica while the Carbon uses… carbon.

In terms of proportions, the tonneau shaped case measures 30.50mm x 44.95mm x 10.35mm. That’s definitely slimmer than many an RM but it’s by no means petite. After all, a sports watch still needs to be legible no matter the target audience. Speaking of legibility, the display has been kept relatively simple with just hours, minutes and a function selector indicator present above the skeletonised dial.

Style wise, the RM 07-04 is all about colour, following in the footsteps of the RM 07-01. Across the collection there is cream, orange, navy, pink, black and teal cases each with their own accent colours ranging from burgundy to red to forest green and many more in a riot of inter-collection colour.

Powering the piece is a new movement, the CRMA8 automatic calibre. It has a 50-hour power reserve and is shock resistant up to 5000g’s making it suitable for athletics, golf, motorsport or anything really. While the majority of us would never consider wearing an RM during strenuous activity, RM famously require their ambassadors to do so, with athletes like Rafael Nadal wearing his RM 035-03 during matches.

When you break the RM 07-04 to its core elements, it really is just your regular Richard Mille sports watch with slightly smaller proportions and a focus on being lightweight. The appeal is there for everyone. Although, not everyone will be able to procure one at a price of around $185,000 (approx. £153,000).
