There’s a reason Louis Vuitton are deserving of their place among our top French watch brands you should know. Not only are the timepieces create stylish, they’re also serious pieces of horology. Perhaps the best example of this is the Poinçon de Genève awarded Tambour Moon Flying Tourbillon Sapphire, now available in green and yellow cases.
Sapphire is an incredible material, touting some of the most impressive scratch resistance in the industry while also looking spectacular in all its transparent glory. Even more impressive is coloured sapphire, as it requires even more complex production techniques when the process is already no walk in the park. Louis Vuitton have proven that they’re masters of this material, creating the 42.5mm diameter case of the Tambour Moon Flying Tourbillon with digital machines using diamond tools.
Previous versions of the watch have featured clear, pink and pale blue coloured sapphire cases but the latest editions are vibrant shade of green and yellow. They’re almost fluorescent in their saturation, creating a strong colour while maintaining the translucence that the material is known for. In fact, the quality of these sapphire watches is such that, along with their predecessors, they’re the only sapphire watches to bear the Poinçon de Genève, a certificate of the highest degree in exceptional horology.

Housed inside is the skeletonised LV90 manual movement with 80-hour power reserve. As expected of a Poinçon de Genève worthy timepiece, it’s finished immaculately, with the gentle finishing of the matte black bridges drawing your eye down towards the flying tourbillon with open cage and signature Louis Vuitton flower motif. Completing the look of the piece are the skeleton hands and dual Louis Vuitton monograms at 12 o’clock and 9 o’clock.
The yellow edition is presented on a black alligator strap, which complements the black PVD titanium, while the green version has a dark green strap instead. As for the watch’s availability, it has an extremely limited production of 20 pieces per colourway. The fact that it’s also price on request doesn’t help to make it any more accessible. While it won’t be a watch you’ll see in the wild, it’s a seriously cool bit of horology.
