There are many things to love about Seiko. There’s their great value, solid specs and perhaps best of all their penchant for designs inspired by the natural world. Admittedly, when it comes to the latter, they lag behind Grand Seiko by a fair margin. However, that gap is getting considerably smaller all the time and the new Prospex Tallest Peaks and Glacier Blue GMT limited editions are almost comparable in terms of dial design to watches like the GS Snowscape.
Seiko Prospex Tallest Peaks Limited Edition SLA069J1
The new Tallest Peaks is based on the 1970s Diver Modern Re-Interpretation, a watch inspired by legendary mountaineer Uemura. He was the first adventurer to summit all five of the highest peaks in Asia, Europe, Africa, North America and South America during his life. In fact, the Tallest Peaks pays direct homage to that fact, as it’s named after his achievement.
Additionally, the dial depicts an image of the highest peak in Europe, Mont Blanc. The impression of the mountain is fairly faint against the white dial, meaning from a distance it could be mistaken for the texture of snow like the aforementioned Snowscape. Once you get closer, it resolves itself into the famous peak.
Beyond the dial, the watch has a smoothly curving case with 200m water resistance and a diving bezel. Despite the mountain theme, this is a diving watch after all. It’s also a fairly chunky piece at 44mm in stainless steel. Powering the piece is the 8L35 automatic calibre with 50-hour power reserve.
The Tallest Peaks is available in a limited edition of 500 pieces priced at £2,600. It also comes with a commemorative box that bears an inscription of an iconic Uemura quote: “When one dream is realised, other dreams will follow.”

Seiko Prospex Glacier Blue GMT Limited Edition SPB385J1
Seiko’s Prospex Glacier Blue GMT is a GMT version of the 1968 Diver’s Modern Re-Interpretation that was recently used as part of the Save the Oceans special editions last year. It’s Seiko’s first GMT dive watch, which is an interesting combination because those two styles of watches don’t traditionally complement each other. However, if you consider it less as a diving watch and more as a rugged adventure piece, the inclusion of a GMT makes more sense in the same way that the Rolex Explorer makes sense.
Of course, the addition of another function means the layout of the watch’s dial has been altered to accommodate it. Predominantly that means there’s a new 24-hour scale on the flange and a GMT hand on the central hand-stack. The scale is split between day and night with silver and light blue colouration while the GMT hand is a dark blue arrow.
The dial itself is based on Seiko’s glacial design, which they’ve used several times recently. For this version, they’ve opted for an incredibly pale blue that, under certain lighting, would almost verge on lavender.
This limited edition is more accessible than the Tallest Peaks edition as there are 4,000 pieces available for £1,600. Additionally, there are two non-limited versions being released as well at £1,400 in black and green colourways.
