In 2026 Greubel Forsey are bidding farewell to not only Stephen Forsey, who resigned from his position on the board of directors amid heaps of drama earlier this year, but also one of their most recognisable creations of the past five years, the Balancier Convexe S2. To send off the distinctive watch with a bang, they’ve released a final version of the watch in a 22-piece limited edition, split across two versions. It’s the Greubel Forsey Balancier Convexe S2 Ceramic.
The first of the swan song models is presented in black ceramic with a 5N red gold bezel and matching crown. Those colours are mirrored on the dial via the dark base with recessed segment in the lower quadrant between 5 and 9 o’clock and signature 30 degree inclined balance wheel positioned towards 7 o’clock. It takes the concept of an hour, minute and second display to the next level, joined by a power reserve at 1 o’clock.

For the second of the Greubel Forsey Balancier Convexe S2 Ceramic, they’ve opted for a full white ceramic edition with a white strap, case, bezel and dial. Completely flipping the style of the watch in comparison to the black edition or even previous models in titanium and carbon. Instead of those darker tones, we’re presented with an object that looks like it belongs in a sci-fi techno-future. There’s almost something unsettling about the clean sterility to it, like a medical device where the beating heart of the balance is tied to your own heart beat.

The cases of both ceramic models measure 41.5mm with the distinctive convexe structure and curving sapphire crystal glass that gives the collection its name. The arching shape is designed to accommodate the inclined balance, which is the visual and chronometric focus of the watch. The angle of the balance stops it being in a flat orientation when the watch is in its most common positions (horizontal or vertical), which diminishes the impact of gravity on its accuracy without needing a tourbillon. It’s supplied with a 72-hour power reserve by a twin, fast-rotating barrel system.

In a limited edition of 11 pieces per colour, this is the most exclusive Balancier S2 that will ever be produced. And that’s saying something as the previous models aren’t exactly common on the high street either. The Balancier S2 calibre with cease production at the end of 2026, making room for new projects coinciding with the brand’s new direction in a post Stephen Forsey operation.
