Greubel Forsey Launch New Limited Edition Balancier S2 With Updated Titanium Case

Greubel Forsey Balancier S2 Titanium Limited Edition

Haute Horology has always been the Greubel Forsey game and the Balancier S was no different when it was first released, although it did have aspirations towards being at the top end of daily beaters. Building on that, the new limited edition Balancier S2 has a stronger and more refined design that means you might actually consider wearing it regularly.

The major difference is the new model’s updated titanium case. It’s a noticeable change because the dimensions have been increased dramatically from 43mm to 46.5mm. However, the size increase comes with simplification. The titanium bezel is now simply polished with brushed sides as opposed to the somewhat pretentious inscriptions about savoire faire and perfection that adorned the previous model.

Its dial has also undergone similar alteration. There are two versions available with either a matte charcoal grey or matte light grey base colour. Both provide high contrast to the luminescent white hands which seem to float high above. The Balancier S2 is also the first time the central bridge has been open worked. The new dial design reads as far more legible than the original and highlights the 30° angle of the balance wheel system that makes the watch so intriguing, with the line of tilt along the 5-9 axis.

One aspect of the watch that hasn’t changed is the movement inside. It’s an in-house manual piece with a 72-hour power reserve. The fact it’s manual plays into the fact Greubel Forsey market this watch as a piece to be worn daily – you’re going to have to wind it every day so why not slip it on? It also features a small seconds and a power reserve indicator.

Ultimately, the design code behind the Balancier S2 is clear: simplify and strengthen. And it’s worked a treat to make it the sportiest and most robust example of haute horology that comes to mind. Even the titanium bracelet has been updated with this philosophy.

As for availability, there will be 88 black dial versions and 64 grey dials, released in small batches of 22 or 16 from 2022 to 2025. On top of that, it’s priced at CHF 205,000 on rubber strap or CHF 245,000 on titanium bracelet. It’s a good job that the finishing throughout the case, dial and movement is immaculate otherwise that price would be hard to justify – frankly it still is.
