After a hard year, it comes as no surprise that the kind of people that call these things are predicting that people will be keen to party hard too. The post-pandemic decade is already being dubbed the new Roaring Twenties, defined by decadence and dressing up. So, to get in the mood we enlisted one of the best dressed Danes around – Mathias le Févre. From his Instagram account – @mathiaslefevre – you can clearly see why he was out first choice for the shoot.
“My taste in watches is like my dressing sense, classic with a twist,” explains the frustratingly handsome 25-year-old. “I have a weakness for vintage watches that from the period of 1930 – 1970 that a certain uniqueness to them, whether that’s a fancy pair of lugs, a funky dial or an oddly shaped case.” 1920s watches of course means pretty diminutive sizes, which is apparently perfect for Mathias. “I can’t stand 40mm-plus watches! There is absolutely no excuse for committing such a style crime unless your watch has a minute repeater, three Tourbillons and a can tell you the time of sunset on Mars.”
It’s a philosophy that’s reflected in Mathias’ own choice of watch: a 1939 from Vacheron that even diminutive wrists will find small. It’s still a fabulous timepiece though, if you can pull it off. “What I find the most appealing is its glorious teardrop lugs, but it also shares its birth year with my grandfather.” So, the big question: Mathias’ favourite look of the shoot: “It has to be the look featuring the jacquard silk dinner jacket by the talented bespoke tailor, Simon Lloyd Fish. I am fascinated by the jacket’s bold cut and 1970’s London underground graphic print, perfect with the bottle green Reverso.”
Of course, location is everything and when scouting out for places that suit the theme, we got reminiscing about negroni-fuelled good times at one of our favourite West End haunts, Harry’s Bar. The all-day dining destination on James Street has the perfect roaring party vibe with a healthy dose of Italian charm. Find out more at Harrys Bar.
