Hip Hop and rap artists are no strangers to the world of luxury watchmaking, if you’ve ever listened to their lyrics, you’ll notice a plethora of references to Patek Philippes, Rolexes and more. However, in the UK scene, it seems that one watchmaker rises above all others in desirability and coolness, Audemars Piguet. As evidenced by the fact that two of the most popular artists of the day, Stormzy and Dave, are both big fans of the brand.
Dave’s love affair with the sports-luxe icon is well documented, mostly because he sang about his £31,000 AP in his recent single Clash, which features Stormzy on the track. He’s also been spotted on Instagram with a stainless steel one valued at around £50,000. And now he can add the £78,600 18k rose gold Royal Oak Double Balance Wheel Open Worked to that list after he was gifted it by his co-artist Stormzy.

A video of the rappers exchanging the gift went viral on social media, with someone in the onlooking crowd yelling ‘one-of-one’, indicating that the watch has been customised in some degree to make it unique. Dave is left speechless and shocked by the gift, and you can’t blame him, no one expects to be given an AP by one of Britain’s best loved artists.
The gesture from Stormzy came after Dave’s latest album, We’re All Alone in This Together, hit number 1 in the UK charts. Stormzy is also known for being spotted with some Royal Oaks of his own and it’s likely that the pair bonded further over their shared love. Rap is clearly a good place to be if you’re a fan of all things luxury as the music video for their collaboration is chock full of top-end products, most notably some very sexy Aston Martins.
