It has become an annual tradition for Seiko to release a European Exclusive edition of the Prospex Solar Speedtimer and that continues in 2025. Back in 2023 we had the ‘Speedometer’ edition and then in 2024 the Factory Red, for 2025 it’s the ‘Motoring’. Despite a less than imaginative name, it might just be the coolest of the lot thanks to its classic colour scheme.
The new edition features a panda style chronograph display with a cream dial and black subdials. It’s not quite so pristine as the usual white and black panda, but that’s because a white version is still available in the form of the SSC813P1, which we featured as one of the best affordable alternatives to the Rolex Daytona. It instead has a warmer, more worn feel, which suits its inspiration of vintage cars, classic and well-loved.

The new dial is housed in the updated 39mm x 13.3mm steel case that was introduced with the 2024 edition. That means a curving, round design with circular brushing that gives a sporty vibe to the piece when paired with the steel tachymeter bezel and chronograph pushers. It also has 100m water resistance, making it a practical watch for day-to-day wearing no matter what activities you’re up to.
Powering the watch is the V192 solar chronograph movement, which can be charged with both natural and artificial light to provide a 6-month charge and accuracy of +/-15 seconds per month. While it lacks some of the prestige of Seiko’s mechanical Speedtimer movements, it makes up for that with practicality and accessibility.

The Prospex Speedtimer ‘Motoring’ European Exclusive is available from Seiko’s European boutiques and online shop at a price of £730. That’s the same price as the previous edition and it’s limited to 2,700 pieces.
