Ahead of the spring, Seiko are expanding the Cocktail Time series with the collection’s first mother-of-pearl dial. It’s a glorious ode to the warming weather, Sakura blossom and a tipple or two at your favourite bar. The Seiko Presage ‘Springtime’ Cocktail Time Limited Edition.
At 34mm with a pink dial, it has more of a traditional feminine appeal, though the Cocktail Time range is generally unisex. It’s only the occasional model that skews more masculine or feminine as is the case here. The case of the watch is made from steel with bicolour elements coloured in gold to add more of a luxurious vibe across the crown and bracelet.

As noted, it offers the first mother-of-pearl dial in the series, introducing the gentle texture and pearlescent finish to the line. It has a vertical pink gradient that’s designed to emulate that of the Sakura Aviation cocktail as produced by Star Bar in Tokyo. Delicate and elegant. That’s paired with dauphine style hands and sharp, facetted hour markers. Completing the display is a small date window between 4 and 5 o’clock.
Despite the small size it’s still an automatic watch rather than quartz as you might expect. It’s powered by the 4R35, which is not exactly the highest spec movement around with a 40-hour power reserve and +45/-35 seconds per day accuracy. However, a calibre like this helps keep the watch accessible even as a mechanical watch featuring a rarer type of dial for Seiko.

Specifically it’s priced at £540 in an edition of 9,000 pieces. That might sound like a lot but remember, the 9,999 piece Seiko Pink Panther sold out within minutes of release. While I don’t expect the same rapid pace here as with the very cool, cartoon connected sports watch, the Presage ‘Springtime’ Cocktail Time Limited Edition is still lovely and with both Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day on the horizon… Need I say more?
