The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Monobalancier Black DLC Titanium is a new addition to the brand’s collection of skeletonised watches, which Roger Dubuis first started exploring in 2005. This model, ref. RDDBEX1136, showcases the brand’s expertise in skeleton calibres, a technique they have refined over the past two decades while also adding a new DLC coating to the case design.
Speaking of which, the case of the Excalibur Monobalancier measures 42mm and is crafted from titanium with the aforementioned DLC coating. This material, diamond-like carbon, is known for being both strong and lightweight, offering optimal protection for the metal beneath. It works particularly well across the signature bezel with prominent indentations. The dark hue contributing to a sleek and modern aesthetic.

As mentioned, the dial of the watch is skeletonised, allowing a clear view of the RD720SQ calibre. This automatic movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and provides a power reserve of 72-hours, provided by a micro-rotor, which is also skeletonised. Additionally, the movement includes a diamond-coated silicon escapement wheel and pallet-stones, contributing to its efficiency. The movement is certified by the Poinçon de Genève, ensuring high standards of precision and hand-finished decoration, of which there are 14 varieties on display.

The watch is paired with a black rubber strap equipped with a quick release system, allowing for easy strap changes. Although the rubber supports the sporty elements of the case and help keep it lightweight in combination with the titanium construction. A 100m water resistance rating also makes it suitable for regular wear although you’d be a brave man to take a five figure watch swimming when it isn’t expressly a dive watch.
The Roger Dubuis Excalibur Monobalancier is priced at £63,000. This release is not limited in production, making it available to a wider audience if you have a spare £63k lying around.
