Parmigiani Fleurier Release Les Roses Carrées Collection Grand Feu Rosa Celeste Minute Repeater

Parmigiani Rosa Celeste Les Roses Carrées Collection Grand Feu

Last year Parmigiani created a truly magnificent watch in the form of the La Rose Carrée, a piece unique that took the art of enamelling to the next level. A year later they’re back at it, however this time it’s a wristwatch collection rather than a pocket watch. The Les Roses Carrées Collection Grand Feu consists of five watches and so far, only the first has been revealed – the Rosa Celeste.

Like all five watches that make up the Collection Grand Feu, the Rosa Celeste is a minute repeater, the most prestigious chiming complication in haute horology. The watch itself consists of a 42mm diameter case made from white gold engraved with the La Rose Carrée motif, a pattern of square roses. The precision and sheen on each metallic petal are such that I initially mistook them for inlaid diamonds, it’s that impressive.

The dial and hunter’s caseback are both decorated with Grand Feu enamel, also known as vitreous enamel. It’s an incredibly difficult material to work with, prone to cracking during its production and so the level of detail Parmigiani have achieved is truly mind bending. The dial has a grainy texture achieved by chiselling a gold base and then applying the blue enamel. The light bouncing off each tiny bump of the dial makes it look like a field of stars, a similar effect to aventurine glass, giving the piece its name: Rosa Celeste, the Celestial Rose.

The caseback bears the La Rose Carrée pattern again, also in blue enamel. A hunter’s caseback, for those unaware, is one that features a hinge allowing you to open it and view the mechanics of the watch inside. It’s a luxurious way to ensure you have enough surface area for sumptuous engraving work while also celebrating the engineering of the watch.

Speaking of the engineering, housed inside the immaculate case is the PF355 manual winding minute repeater movement. Minute repeaters are complications that can be activated at any point to chime the current time using a system of hammers and gongs. The Rosa Celeste uses cathedral gongs connected to the case and enhanced with resonance pockets to create a beautiful and clear sound. Plus, it’s equipped with Parmigiani’s dead time skip technology that means there is no pause between the chimes as it moves through hours, quarters and minutes. On top of that it has a 72-hour power reserve.

If all five of the Les Roses Carrées Collection Grand Feu are this decadent and jaw dropping (and I’m sure they will be) this could be one of the most impressive series of haute horological watches in recent memory.
