Oracle Time Is Hiring: Junior Editor

Oracle Time

Oracle Time is hiring a full-time Junior Editor. No journalism degree required, no bylines required, just proof that you can write and that you care about watches more than is strictly sensible (especially for your wallet).

You might be surprised to learn there is a job out there for watch lovers. New releases land on your desk before the embargo lifts, you sit across the table from the people who design and build the watches you argue about online, and you get paid to share your opinions in print, online and on camera.

Oracle Time is built on teamwork, a love of watches, and the belief that a watch is more than just a spec sheet. Every watch carries a real story, of the person who made it, the era that shaped it or the wrist it ended up on, and our job is to find that story and tell it better than anyone else.

What the job actually looks like

The Junior Editor sits at the heart of Oracle Time. A normal month means hands-on reviews, news and new releases, features written to brief, interviews, attending events, brand profiles, and helping with social and commercial content. Everything we do is multi-platform: a print feature becomes an online article, a review becomes a short video, and part of the role is shaping every piece so it travels across the magazine, the website and our socials.

A visual eye matters as much as the words. You will help plan photoshoots, feed into magazine layouts, and present on camera for our Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. You do not need to be polished, we will train you, but it helps if you are confident enough to give it a go.

The role is full time and based at our Essex office three days a week (Battlesbridge, 35 minutes from Liverpool Street). The starting salary is £26,000 to £30,000 depending on experience. You will work directly within our creative team, alongside the Editorial Director and Digital Editor, with a byline in print and online from your first issue.

Who we are looking for

Oracle Time Team

Someone who knows watches obsessively, spots the story in them instinctively, and can tell it with a strong narrative, on the page and out loud. We welcome watch knowledge in any form, whether that is knowing every Rolex reference off by heart, understanding how a tourbillon works, or being able to name every microbrand going.

You might work in watch retail, engineering or teaching; you might run a blog from sheer passion or never have published a word. We do not mind. We would rather teach a watch obsessive how publishing works than the other way round.

How to apply

No CVs, no cover letters. Fill in the form on our careers page (or click the button below): a few basics, the watch that got you hooked, one feature you would pitch us, and 800 words on a set brief, which is this: make us care about a watch you love. We will read everything, and five shortlisted writers each get a paid trial commission before the strongest gets the job.

Our aim is simply to find the right person for Oracle Time, whatever their experience. If the role does not end up being yours, we love working with new writers and strong applicants will be invited into our paid contributor programme. And if you are more experienced than this role suggests, apply anyway: the scope and the package will be agreed to match.

The deadline is 7th September. If you know someone who should apply, send them this.
