Nomadic is a Northern Irish microbrand based in Belfast and inspired by the city’s industrial history and especially its docks and shipyards. Tool watches like the Maraí diver are a tribute to the role the city played in the creation of the Titanic. However, the brand is expanding their horizons beyond tool watches with the introduction of their first rectangular dress watch, the Dána 141.

The rectangular case measures 28mm width x 39.6mm lug-to-lug x 8.3mm thickness, which makes it a medium-sized watch within the context of rectangular designs. It’s a good size for the piece because it’s large enough to support the industrial-adjacent architecture of the broad, flat planes of the case and facetted lugs (with alternating brushed and polished finishing), without making it feel like a mammoth on the wrist. The dramatic shape of the case ties in with the watch’s name because Dána translates into English as “Bold”.

There are three dial options in the collection: Moonlight White, Emerald Green and Black Velvet. Each of them features a central, vertically striped section surrounded by an Art Deco style railway minute track and an hour scale in 12/3/6/9 arrangement. The central hour and minute hands are skeletonised, giving you a glimpse of that central patterned area through them. The Art Deco styling is what gives the Dána 141 its dress watch appeal.

Below the surface of the Dána 141 is the La Joux-Perret D101 manual winding movement with 50-hour power reserve. It’s visible through the exhibition caseback with its Côtes de Genève finishing. Since the exhibition window is circular to match the calibre, the rest of the caseback around the window is steel with vertical brushing. While looking at the back of the watch you can also see the quick-release spring bars on the strap, of which there are four types available including Classic Croc, Alran Chèvre, Green Suede or Milanese Mesh bracelet.
It’s priced at £1,250, which is a pretty reasonable price for a La Joux-Perret powered dress watch. It’s also on the lower end of the Nomadic price range, slotting between the Maraí dive watch on one side and their GMTs and Chronographs on the higher end.
