Nodus Sector Deep Damascus Introduces Stealth DLC and Improved Movement

Nodus Sector Deep Damascus

The Nodus Sector was designed to be the ultimate tool watch in that its versatile mid-case can be adapted and specialised into the main tool watch archetypes with ease. That means the collection consists of the Sector II Sport, Sector II Pilot, Sector II GMT, Sector II Field, Sector II Dive and arguably the most specialised of them all, the Sector Deep with its 500m water resistance rating. Today we’re focussing on the latter because Nodus have given it a spruce up with a new, high spec movement and an aesthetic update featuring DLC and Damascus steel – appropriately called the Nodus Sector Deep Damascus.

Nodus Sector Deep Damascus

Starting with the case, it has the signature stepped design of the Sector Deep, which means the case body is only 38mm in diameter but the bezel flares out wider to 42mm in diameter. It gives the watch the visual appearance of a large watch but in terms of wrist comfort, it actually wears like a small one. It’s produced in steel with 500m water resistance and a gunmetal grey DLC coating. The Sector Deep has previously been produced with a full black DLC coating, but this is the first time it’s in a lighter shade.

The Damascus steel element comes into play across the bezel, which is also DLC coated to complete the stealth visual – this time in full black to contrast slightly with the rest of the case. You can see the characteristic folded striations in the metal that gives Damascus steel its signature look. The coating does make it relatively subtle compared to many other Damascus watches, providing a suitable backdrop for the dual scales of the bezel. Those scales are a 12-hour scale, letting the watch serve as a dual time zone if needed, with the second being a 60-minute dive timer.

For the dial, they’ve opted for a clean black display with square hour markers coated with Swiss Super-LumiNova. It has white hour and second hands to contrast with the black of the dial and the arrow-shaped minute hand is orange, which is famously the most visible colour underwater according to research by watch brands like Doxa. The dial is punctuated at 6 o’clock by a date window, adding some extra utility while on land – it’s also colour matched to the dial so it doesn’t impact legibility underwater.

As noted in the introduction, the other significant upgrade to the Deep Sector present in this watch aside from the material and visual update is the movement. It now houses the Miyota 8315 automatic with 60-hour power reserve instead of the Seiko NH35 with 41-hour power reserve. It’s protected by a solid caseback engraved with the watch’s details and thematic wave pattern.

Naturally, the improvement to the movement and bezel means that the price has increased compared to the standard model. Specifically, the standard Sector Deep is £506 while the Damascus model is £600. The £94 premium is justified and it remains great value for a 500m diver.

  • I really don’t understand the logic behind the miyota 8315 when the 9000 series is preferable and I regard this as penny pinching
