Back in 2022 Möels & Co announced their presence in the British watch industry with the launch of the 528, a retro-futuristic creation with a signature TV-shaped case and golden ratio dial. It won multiple design awards and now it’s back in a second series, appropriately called the Möels & Co 528 S2. So, what’s new?
There are several significant updates but the most noticeable is the reduced dimensions of the case. It’s now a much more wearable 43mm x 32mm x 8.7mm, which is an improvement in every direction. It now competes much better in the category of design-led watches without requiring you to be someone more used to wearing bulky sports watches. The size is not the only update to the case as it features a new onion crown and tapered lugs, also leaning into its more refined, slightly dressy appeal.

A similar level of attention to detail has been paid to the dial. The Arabic numerals are now thicker to improve readability, which is very useful given the stylised typography. The hands too are thicker and shorter so that they stand out more. There is also a suite of new dial colours to choose from that includes Desert Mirage (sand), Vistamare (teal), Solo Argento (silver), Lunera (black) and Hexara (alternating black and silver). Each paired with either silver or golden accents.

The other significant update to the Möels & Co 528 S2 compared to the launch collection is the movement. Instead of the entry level Sellita SW200-1 it now houses the La Joux-Perret D101 manual – a much higher spec movement with 50-hour power reserve. It suits the shapely, design focus of the collection much better as its slim proportions (and the lack of a rotor) is what allows for the reduced case dimensions.

As for pricing and availability, pre-orders open from the 28th of October at 12:00 at £1,350, a 20% reduction from the subsequent £1,650 retail price. That’s obviously quite a step up from the sub £1,000 price tag of the originals but the increase is an accurate reflection of the upgrades. It will be interesting to see if this release will put Möels & Co a bit more into the conversation when it comes to British watch design.
