M.A.D Editions has really revitalised the MB&F name among a new type of watch collector. Where the haute horology creations produced under the MB&F logo are extremely expensive and produced in small numbers, the M.A.D Editions are comparatively accessible. At sub £3,000 price tags they’re more realistically affordable for the average collector and while they aren’t produced in huge numbers, the raffle allocation system means that everyone who is interested has an equal chance of getting one. But what if the raffle gods have been unkind and you’ve never won an allocation despite trying multiple times? For you MB&F have launched the M.A.D.2 REDemption, alongside the standard M.A.D.2 R&B.
Let’s break down what that means first before diving into the new watches themselves. Starting with the M.A.D.2 R&B, as it’s the standard model it follows all of the allocation rules established in previous models. That means it’s available strictly via raffle that will be overseen by a bailiff to ensure fairness. You will have one week to sign up to take part in the raffle from April 14th – 20th (coinciding with Geneva Watch Week).

For the M.A.D.2 REDemption, they are not using an allocation system. Instead, collectors who have taken part in at least four M.A.D Editions raffles and never won an allocation will be invited to buy the watch without going through the raffle process again. If you’re familiar with the concept of gacha, you’ve essentially hit pity. It’s actually really cool of MB&F to do this as there’s no incentive to do it other than to reward fans and collectors who have proven that they’re enthusiastic about the brand.

For the watches themselves, they’re new colourways of the M.A.D.2, maintaining the Eric Giroud designed twin subdial jump hour and trailing minutes display. The model is inspired by 1990s club culture, which is why the red and black edition with black dial and red subdials has been named the R&B, a play on words of both the colours and the music genre. The REDemption then inverts those colours to make red the dominant colour on the dial.

Both versions are powered by the La Joux-Perret calibre G101 with MB&F jump hour module. It has a 64-hour power reserve and automatic winding. The movement is housed in a 42mm diameter x 12.3mm thickness steel case presented on a black leather strap. Both versions are priced at CHF 2,900 excl VAT (approx. £2,750).
