MB&F Finally Reveal LM Sequential Flyback EVO Following Years of Development

MB&F Legacy Machine Sequential Flyback EVO

The journey to reach the launch of the new LM Sequential Flyback EVO has spanned almost half a decade. The plan was to release it back in 2022 but delays in the development of the flyback mechanism meant it launched without that function in the form of the LM Sequential EVO. Then, in 2024 they completed development and unveiled the LM Sequential Flyback, which notably is not part of the EVO line. So at last we now have the watch in the form it was always meant to be in featuring both the flyback function and EVO design.

The EVO designation refers to an LM that has been adapted for daily wear – with the belief that all watches are designed to be worn rather than sit in display cases. That means 80m water resistance, a screw-down crown, integrated rubber strap and improved shock absorber system. Along with some aesthetic refinements to pair with its more practical, sporty specs including the removal of the bezel to let the domed sapphire crystal feel more prominent. It makes sense for a chronograph model that needs to withstand the rigours of a track day.

As for the Flyback function, it dramatically improves the overall utility of what is already an impressive chronograph. The LM Sequential is actually comprised of two chronographs that can be operated independently or in conjunction with each other. The classic example of the application of a flyback chrono is in aviation navigation, allowing the chronograph to stop, reset and restart with a single pusher press as you move from waypoint to waypoint. With the Sequential Flyback, you can have one of the chronographs track total flight time while the second uses the flyback to track each stint of the journey. And that’s only one example of its application.

In order to differentiate this model from any of its predecessors, it features a new dial plate with sunray brushed finishing in aquamarine. You can catch glimpses of it through the openworked portions of the chronograph display and below the sloped time subdial. It adds a nice light quality to what is otherwise a very dense and intense display. Though I suspect most of your attention will be drawn to the signature flying balance.

Specs-wise, the LM Sequential Flyback EVO has a 72-hour power reserve with twin mainsprings and manual winding. It also has 621 components, which is very easy to believe with even a cursory inspection of the display. The watch is priced at CHF 168,000 excl. VAT (approx. £158,000). So, was it worth waiting almost half a decade for the ultimate expression of this watch? On balance I think yes.
