March LA.B Mansart Golden Hour Small Seconds Watch Review

March LA.B Mansart Golden Hour Small Seconds

It’s well documented at this point that the popularity of smaller dimensions and retro styles hasn’t quite reached its peak – though a few larger watches are starting to re-emerge. For now though, collectors are less interested in macho sports watches while finding renewed interest in the designs of the 20th century. As such, the launch of the March LA.B Mansart Golden Hour Small Seconds couldn’t have been better timed. Dare I say it might also be the nicest watch March LA.B have ever produced. Let’s review it.

March LA.B Mansart Golden Hour Small Seconds

Opening the package, one of the first things you notice is that the watch comes with two dials, a gold one in the watch and a dark green one in a small container. That’s because the dials are interchangeable and you can have them swapped in March LA.B’s stores – they note in the press release that the first swap is free, implying that there might be a small service charge thereafter. But having that option and flexibility is very uncommon so it’s overall a major positive.

The dial itself is an irregular octagon to match the shape of the faceted case. This new edition introduces a small seconds display for the first time, which sits off-centre at 7 o’clock and is a matching octagonal shape. It has a smooth finish that contrasts to the horizontal engraving across the rest of the dial, which is also new, emphasising the geometric and Art Deco style of the piece. It makes the March LA.B Mansart Golden Hour Small Seconds feel significantly more mature and dressy in comparison to the previous Mansart date model. The hour markers and hands are classy golden batons to complete the refined air.

That golden aspect continues across the case, which is made from steel with gold plating. The case itself measures 35mm width x 39mm length x 11mm thickness. At that size it has a good amount of wrist presence without becoming bulky or unwieldy, which would be very easy to do with its angular design. Though I will admit that there is one aspect of the case that is in fact a bit unwieldy and that’s the crown.

It is also an irregular octagon to match the shape of the case and while it looks fantastic, the shape makes it a touch awkward to use. Because it’s long with flat sides, you can’t roll it between your fingers to wind or set the time – you have to hold it, rotate it 180 degrees, release it, reverse your grip and repeat. Not major but worth noting, plus you might decide that the cool look of it is worth the mild inconvenience.

The movement that the crown controls is the La Joux-Perret G121 automatic movement with 68-hour power reserve. LJP has become one of the dominant names in third party movements in 2025, with a huge number of brands adopting their calibres. It’s visible here through the Mansart Golden Hour Small Seconds’ exhibition caseback, which is circular with a green tint. It makes for a distinctive appearance paired with the openwork rotor that replicates the style of the March LA.B logo, it’s also engraved with the names Los Angeles and Biarritz, which is what LA.B stands for.

In terms of pricing, the March LA.B Mansart Golden Hour Small Seconds is $3,510 (approx. £2,600) and comes on a black alligator leather strap. It’s a price that makes sense between its high-quality movement, gold plated case and additional dial. With its strong Art Deco influence and luxury vibe, this is the best-looking March LA.B I’ve been hands on with. Plus, March LA.B were just announced as a new exhibiting brand at Watches & Wonders 2026, giving you the opportunity to meet them too.
