Longines Give The Heritage Classic An Update For 2021

Longines Heritage Classic

Ah the Longines Heritage collection, proof if it were ever needed that the Swiss watchmaker has more than enough archival releases up their proverbial sleeve to keep collectors happy for years to come. Yet while most of the pieces in the collection are one-offs, this time Longines is revisiting a bit of a fan favourite: the Heritage Classic Sector Dial.

The watch is inspired by vintage Longines watches from the 30 and is defined by its dial, which as the name suggests is divided into different sectors. The difference between this and the 2019 version is that here, the dial is black. That’s it.

It’s a small enough change, but a welcome one and the finishing is still excellent across the board. The central disc is matt to allow the silver hands to stand out with bold contrast while the outer hour ring is finished in brushed anthracite to give a slight tonal difference. The dial is completed by a ridged small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock.

However, this update has more going for it than a handsome new dial. It’s one of only a handful of heritage pieces from Longines to come on a full metallic bracelet – the majority have leather straps exclusively. They’ve given it a rice-grain style bracelet with alternating links of brushed and polished finishing, which is inspired by 1940s mesh pieces. It’s also available on a cognac-coloured strap with a pull-up effect but honestly, it’s all about that bracelet.

While this update hasn’t rocked the horological world, it’s a stylish refresh one of the coolest archival models around. Given this is Longines, it’s likely to be pretty solid value, too.
