EPOS 3435 Verso 2
Swiss watchmaking is globally-acclaimed for a reason. From the Jura mountains to La Vallée Joux, the movements produced across the country are among the finest in the world. They’re also a little pricey. That’s not a surprise really; you need to pay for quality, particularly when it’s in a form as traditional as a watch. However, should that really be the case? According to EPOS… no.
Founded in 1925, EPOS was based in La Vallée Joux by the watchmaking dynasty of James Aubert. So far so Swiss. In fact, there are plenty of watchmakers whose histories follow the same lines. The main difference is that EPOS is still here.

EPOS 3441 Diver
The quartz crisis of the Seventies and Eighties destroyed brand after brand, obliterating the traditional watchmaking industry. EPOS is one of the few that survived. By clinging to their ideals of horological excellence, they weathered the storm and, along with some of the biggest names in the watch world, remain today.

EPOS 3434 Passion
In fact, it’s strange that more everyday watch lovers haven’t heard of EPOS. Their collection is seriously varied, ranging from classic rectangular pieces to 5-minute repeaters via moon phases painted with the Swiss mountains. It’s not just their design either; it’s the fact that the movements are superb Swiss calibres. The secret, however, is what’s done with them.

EPOS Sportive Pilot Chronograph
Rather than the current focus on pure in-house movements, which, let’s be honest, only really serves to make the watches more expensive, EPOS customise quality third-party ones instead. There’s nothing wrong with that; in fact, it serves to bring down the prices, while ensuring the level of quality and complicated watchmaking you’d expect from some of the biggest names in the business.

Epos Emotion Chrono Moonphase
The end result is a wide range of movements richly-decorated, expertly handmade and incorporating plenty of EPOS’ own horological innovations. In short, they transform quality base movements into pieces of watchmaking artistry – and all for far less than you’d expect.
