Hermès Introduce Bi-Colour Rose Gold and Titanium H08

Hermes H08 Rose Gold Titanium

The Hermès H08 emerged almost two years ago, at Watches & Wonders 2021, and ever since its launch we’ve been wondering when we’d see a new version. With its cushion case and industrial good looks, it’s the closest Hermès have come to a Genta style watch and it’s a really good look. However, the intervening years have been dominated by their haute horological efforts like the Squelette Lune and Arceau de Temps. Now though the H08 is back in the form of the new Rose Gold and Titanium H08.

Ultimately, the new watch is a bi-colour reimagining of the original. The 39mm diameter case with cushion shape and brushed finishing is the same but the materials are different. Although, where most bi-colour watches use gold as a way to highlight the decorative aspects of a watch while the body of the watch remains strong and durable, Hermès have flipped that on its head with a rose gold case and a titanium bezel. It’s an unusual choice and highlights the contrasting aspects of the watch.

Speaking of contrast, Hermès’ typically quirky numerals pop with a hint of colour now that they’re outlined in gold against the black gold backdrop of the dial, and the same is true of the hour and minute hands. However, I do miss the orange tip to the seconds hand from the previous edition, although I can see how it might clash with the pinker tone of the rose.

Inside is the Hermès H1837, an automatic calibre with a 50-hour power reserve. It’s decorated in classic Hermès fashion, which is to say it has an intricate pattern of interlocking Hs. It definitely draws the eye when seen through the exhibition sapphire caseback.

The Rose Gold and Titanium H08 is an odd beast. On the one hand it’s always nice to have more options and colourways, on the other it hasn’t really changed anything about the watch in a meaningful way. It’s also nearly twice the price of the titanium models because of its gold content, at €15,750 (approx. £13,950). I’m looking forward to seeing what else Hermès can do with the H08, perhaps a GMT?
