The Herbelin Newport is one of the most distinctive models from the French watch brand, combining a maritime-inspired industrial aesthetic with dress watch elements to create an original timepiece that stands out. Over the years it has seen multiple executions ranging from the Newport Heritage Diver, to Chronograph editions and the Newport Slim Skeleton anniversary edition. For 2026, Herbelin has focused on the dress watch aspect of the model by introducing the new Newport Automatic Moon Phases series.
There are four references in the series, split two and two between the 40.5mm diameter men’s edition and the 35mm ladies’ model. Despite the substantial difference in diameter, the thicknesses are relatively similar with 10.9mm for the larger pieces and 10.8mm for the smaller. All four are produced in steel but the 35mm offering features additional yellow gold PVD coatings to give them a bi-colour appearance.

The Herbelin Newport Automatic Moon Phases follow the traditional Newport design with a porthole style bezel that features visible screws to give them an industrial slant. They also feature the characteristic central lugs that creates a distinctive silhouette when attached to a strap or bracelet.
Where this collection really stands out though are the dials. Each of them has the same layout with central hours, minutes and seconds with a date window at 3 o’clock and the titular moonphase at 6 o’clock. However, each of the four models has a different textural execution for the dial itself.

At 40.5mm those options are lunar surface texture that emulates the cratered surface of the moon or a sleek matte blue. At 35mm the options are a second lunar surface texture but this time in silver rather than blue. Lastly is a mother-of-pearl option that showcases the iridescent qualities of that material.
The entire collection is powered by the Sellita SW280-2 Power+ movement, the Swiss-made calibre with a boosted power reserve of 65-hours. It has also been regulated in Herbelin’s workshops to achieve an improved accuracy of 0/+15 seconds per day. It’s visible through the watches’ exhibition casebacks where you can admire the Côtes de Genève finishing on the rotor.

For pricing, the most accessible is the 40.5mm Newport Automatic Moon Phases Blue at €1,400 (approx. £1,210), followed by the 40.5mm Lunar Surface and 35mm Mother-of-Pearl both at €1,500 (approx. £1,300) and lastly the 35mm Lunar Surface at €1,600 (approx. £1,380). Of the four, my personal preference is the 40.5mm Lunar Surface edition for its sizing and interesting dial texture.
