Girard-Perregaux have released a handful of watches in collaboration with their partner Aston Martin now and each one has offered something completely different. The Tourbillon Flying Bridges is haute horologically inclined, like an F1 car compared to a sports car, the F1 Edition is technical in carbon, containing actual F1 components and the Laureato Aston Martin Edition is as elegant as a Vantage. The new Girard-Perregaux Laureato Green Ceramic Aston Martin Edition leans towards the latter in terms of style but also features technical advances as it’s the first full ceramic Laureato in colour.
And what a colour it is. It’s a rich, deep British racing green in tribute to Aston Martin’s racing colours. Across the diamond patterned dial, ceramic case and bracelet it looks incredibly smart. What’s all the more impressive for the case and bracelet is how difficult coloured ceramic is to create, making the consistent tone across all elements of the watch a real achievement.

The design of the ceramic case is classic Laureato, featuring an octagonal bezel sitting atop a tonneau body that flows seamlessly into an integrated bracelet. There are two sizes available, the larger of which is 42mm and the smaller 38mm. Both sizes are unisex although the 38mm in particular is well adapted to wrists of all sizes.
On the reverse side of both sizes are exhibition casebacks with the Aston Martin logo, through which you can see the movements. Due to the difference in size, they each house different calibres with the 42mm containing the GP01800-2165 and the 38mm the GP03300-2166. They have 54 and 46-hour power reserves respectively and feature hour, minute, second and date functions.
The Girard-Perregaux Laureato Green Ceramic Aston Martin Edition is a limited edition with 388 42mm versions and 188 38mm versions available. Despite the extra exclusivity, the 38mm edition has a slightly lower price of £21,200 compared to the 42mm’s £21,900. This might just be my favourite GP x Aston Martin collab to date, it has the right combination of technical skill involved as well as a strong focus on style. It’s exactly that combination that makes Aston Martin the right choice of vehicle for James Bond and it works just as well in wristwatch form.
