The Girard-Perregaux Laureato is one of the most enduringly stylish watches around, consistently winning people’s hearts since its original launch in 1975. However, an important secret to enduring style is a willingness to embrace the popular trends of the current moment and in watchmaking that means embracing green dials. Not that Girard-Perregaux haven’t already done so with the Laureato Eternity and Aston Martin editions. But since those were special editions it’s about time for one to join their permanent collection, hence the new Girard-Perregaux Laureato Green 81010.
Following in the footsteps of its Ref. 81010 cousins in blue, black and silver, the Laureato Green has a Clous de Paris dial in its titular colour. The textured surface allows light to play across the dial interesting ways, highlighting different facets of this particular shade. I would describe it as a forest green although I could imagine that in certain lighting it takes on an emerald tone. Although, for the first time in the 81010 family, the Green has a mismatched flange in black. The black peripheral ring adds definition to the design and pairs nicely with the PVD hour and minute hands.
However, the dial and flange combo is the only way in which the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Green innovates on the collection. The case is the same as its predecessors at its 42mm diameter in stainless steel with the signature octagonal bezel. The movement is the same as well, the GP01800 automatic with 52-hour power reserve and immaculate finishing. It’s not exactly an unexpected addition to the collection and doesn’t break new ground – it also has the same price as the other colours at £11,100 – but anything that adds more Laureato options is fine by us.
