Are you one to wear trainers with casual tailoring, or to elevate your denim with smart sneakers? If that’s the case then what Crown Northampton does is right up your street. The British shoemaker has just released a new range of hi-top sneakers in collaboration with legendary American tannery Horween Leather. Featuring half a dozen leathers including its Chromexel and Essex leathers, the Hi Sneaker Collection focuses on the attitude of longevity and sustainability with the selected leathers used in the sneakers reflecting those beliefs.
One of the most fabulous things about Horween leather is its unique characteristics due to the oils used in the tanning process which help them age and patina in a particular way. Not only are the leathers hard wearing, but they soften nicely with age – the process and journey getting there will be the fun part of wearing them.
There’s no need to wear with care as Crown Northampton also offers resoling of the sneakers. This is quite rare to find for sneakers, as once worn out you tend to replace them. However, it’s a valuable extension to owning a pair of the hi-tops while adding increased longevity and endurance to the shoes, allowing them to be revived over and again until you have your personal patina just right.
If this slower and considered approach to footwear craftsmanship is where sneakers are heading – and it does look to be – then expect even more great things to come from Britain’s classic shoemakers.
