Citizen Fumé Tsuyosa with Gradient Blue Dial Available in UK

Citizen Tsuyosa Gradient Blue Dial

In a year when Rolex updated the entire Daytona collection, Omega revisited the entire Seamaster range for the 75th anniversary, it might come as a surprise that one of the most talked about watches in the community is the Citizen Tsuyosa. And yet that’s exactly the case with the international debut of the accessible Japanese sports watch proving a huge success now that it’s finally available in the UK. Hot on the heels of the first colourful collection coming over to Britain is the fumé Tsuyosa with a blue gradient dial.

For those unfamiliar with the Tsuyosa, it’s a 40mm stainless steel watch with broad, brushed surfaces and an integrated steel bracelet. It puts it firmly into the category of accessible steel sports watches alongside models like the Christopher Ward The Twelve and Tissot PRX (we compared the three here). However, what’s really new about this latest Tsuyosa is the fumé blue dial so let’s jump to that.

Citizen Tsuyosa Gradient Blue Dial

It’s a sunray dial in a dark blue tone that fades to black around the edges of the watch, shifting through a variety of shades of teal. In classic fumé style it has a smoky quality the makes it the darkest of the Tsuyosa range, which (outside of the black edition) is very vibrant. The lumed baton hour markers cut through the darker portions of the display adding a flash of brightness to the display. I think it sits comfortably alongside the existing models and whether you prefer it will come down to personal taste.

Under the surface it houses the Citizen Cal. 8210 with 40-hour power reserve – no surprises that it’s basically a Citizen branded version of the Miyota 8218 considering that Miyota are owned by Citizen. A solid Japanese automatic movement that you really can’t ask any more from at a price of just £299. Ultimately, the Tsuyosa has already cemented a position as one of the key launches of the year and the fumé Tsuyosa doesn’t change that. However, giving collectors more colourways to choose from is always a positive, allowing for more personal collections. In fact, taking a look at the Tsuyosa internationally, there are still a couple of fumé editions in red and electric blue that are yet to make their way to the UK so perhaps we have those to look forward to.
