Back in spring, Citizen stealthily released a dive watch update to their incredibly popular integrated bracelet sports watches collection called the Tsuyosa Shore. For the summer they’re now expanding that collection by introducing the Tsuyosa Shore Timeslip, a limited edition variant with 12,000 pieces available at £349. While 12,000 might not sound like a limited edition by most standards, Citizen is estimated to produce around 20 million watches annually (based on published financial highlight documents), so 12,000 is really a very small drop in the ocean.

In order to convert the Tsuyosa into a dive watch, Citizen have doubled its water resistance from 50m to 100m and added a 60-minute, unidirectional timer bezel. 100m water resistance is the bare minimum required for a dive watch according to ISO regulations so it’s an important milestone to hit. In practical terms, it means that a watch is suitable for use at the surface of the water such as during swimming, but if you actually intend to go diving into the depths a higher resistance rating is recommended. In order to achieve this higher rating, the watch’s thickness has been increased to 12.5mm from 11.7mm – the diameter remains 40mm.

What makes the Tsuyosa Shore Timeslip a special edition compared to the standard Tsuyosa Shore models is the new grainy dial texture and black fumé colour scheme. That black dial is paired with gold coloured accents across the central hands, hour markers and bezel scale. It’s a well-established colourway in the dive watch sphere, especially from brands like Tudor with the Black Bay.
Inside is the Citizen calibre 8210 (from the Citizen-owned Miyota), an automatic movement with 42-hour power reserve. It has central hours, minutes and seconds with a date window at 3 o’clock beneath a cyclops lens. It’s visible through the exhibition caseback. It’s the same movement as used in the standard Tsuyosa, which helps maintain its great value for money.

The Citizen Tsuyosa Shore Timeslip is a great affordable summer beater, blending the styles of an integrated bracelet sports watch with dive watch elements. At £349 it’s in impulse buy range for many collectors.
