Everything looks better in blue and, fortunately for Bucherer, their particular shade is one of the best. Aside from their sterling reputation as one of the world’s finest watch retailers, it’s the main reason we’re giving credit for their endless stream of collaborative timepieces. The latest in that impressive line-up is none-other than Breguet, with a fantastic version of their Marine 5517.
The major focus for Breguet last year, we actually did a review of the alarm version of the Marine titanium (which you can find here, naturally) though we could only have hoped it was as handsome as this Bucherer-endorsed automatic version.
The 40mm titanium case is small for a nautical timepiece, but then Breguet is classicism at its finest so anything else would be a bit out of character. Speaking of which, character is something the new Marine has in spades, from the cool, muscular lugs to the guilloche waves across the dial in that beautiful Bucherer livery.
The automatic movement is flawless, with a 55-hour power reserve and a level of finishing that only the most prestigious maisons can aspire to. It goes without saying that it’s a manufacture calibre too; again, this is Breguet. What else would it be?
Despite having a rogue’s gallery including some of the most important watchmakers in the world, Bucherer shows no signs of slowing in their quest to paint the horological landscape blue. If it results in pieces like this though, we’re not complaining.
