AVI-8 Launch CVRT 3775A, a Sleek and Technical Tool Watch

AVI-8 CVRT 3775A

AVI-8 have teamed up with Worn & Wound on a new collaboration watch called the CVRT 3775A – pronounced Covert. Living up to its name, it’s a somewhat minimalist, practical tool watch that doesn’t draw attention to itself and in doing so might be the coolest watch AVI-8 has launched all year. While the historian in me enjoys their typical fare of flavourful, heritage aviation inspired design, the quiet reserve of the CVRT 3775A feels like an instant winner.

Starting with the case, it’s a surprisingly svelte design despite the apparent boldness of its wide bezel and knurled grip. The watch measures 37.75mm in diameter with a thickness of 11mm, so while it has the aesthetic of a larger watch – it reminds me of a Hublot Classic Fusion without the visible screws or integrated lugs – it’s innately wearable. In terms of the watch’s style, while we all know that James Bond is an Omega and Rolex man, there is still an element of the international super spy about it. With the CVRT’s sleek and utilitarian design while being strong and tough, perhaps this is the watch of John Wick. At the very least it would go with his black suit and the metallic hardware of his guns.

For the dial they’ve opted for the same vibe of classy utility. It’s matte black to avoid glare and reflections while being easy to read thanks to high contrast baton hour markers and Arabic numerals with C3 Super-LumiNova. The handset too is understated, practical and stylish.

Beneath the dial is the Japanese Miyota 9015 automatic movement, which is popular due to its slim profile allowing it to fit in smaller watches. It has a 42-hour power reserve, which is very reasonable for a sub £500 watch. It’s protected by a solid caseback that helps to secure the watch’s 100m water resistance rating.

As for price, the CVRT is $450 (approx. £350) and is available from both AVI-8’s online boutique and Worn & Wound’s Wind Up Watch Shop. So far as I can tell that’s the only way in which this has any connection to Worn & Wound beyond the fact they also handled the press photography; there’s not so much as a logo on the caseback. I really like this watch, it feels fresh and modern which isn’t AVI-8’s usual remit, so ironically given its aesthetic, it stands out nicely.
