Ulysse Nardin Freaks Out

Ulysse Nardin Freak Out Ulysse Nardin Freak Out Ulysse Nardin Freak Out

Ulysse Nardin’s Freak – born amid a maniacal laughter in the middle of a lightning storm as the planets aligned – is one of the few real watch icons out there. It first appeared in the halcyon months of 2001 and has since made its presence known as an avant-garde masterpiece.

We’re not about to describe all its inner workings (you can find out more on that in our hands-on review of the Freak Vision, here) but the new version is well worth talking about. Essentially, it attempts to make the Freak more accessible.

The Freak Out is still a piece of pure haute horology, but by using titanium over platinum it’s a cut-price $48,000 (around £34,400). Yes, yes it’s still expensive, but what do you expect? You can’t Freak Out for cheap.

Sam Kessler

Legend has it that Sam’s first word was ‘escapement’ and, while he might have started that legend himself, he’s been in the watch world long enough that it makes little difference. As the editor of Oracle Time, he’s our leading man for all things horological – even if he does love yellow dials to a worrying degree. Owns a Pogue; doesn’t own an Oyster Perpetual. Yet.
