If you mention Raymond Weil to me, I immediately think about their rich history of producing music themed watches like the Maestro. However, throughout 2022 it has been their collection of sports watches that have taken the limelight with releases like the Freelancer Chronograph 7741 and Freelancer Chronograph 7780. Their latest timepiece is another sporty Freelancer but this time it’s a dive watch, the Freelancer Diver Geneva Limited Edition.
The case of the watch is based on the 2019 Freelancer Diver and features the same 42.5mm stainless steel construction with a ceramic insert diving bezel. Although, instead of having a water resistance rating of 300m like the 2019 model, the new piece has a rating of 310m to match the depth of Lac Léman (Lake Geneva) in tribute to the city Raymond Weil calls home.

What really makes the Freelancer Diver Geneva Limited Edition stand out from previous Freelancers and indeed most dive watches on the market is its dial. While the idea of a blue gradient dial isn’t anything new, the way it’s been executed here is highly distinctive.
Instead of a linear gradient from 12 o’clock to 6 o’clock like you find on watches such as the Spinnaker HASS, it has an off-centre radial gradient. The darkest part of the dial is concentrated at 6 o’clock and it get lighter towards the edges in an immensely satisfying way.

On the rear of the Freelancer Diver Geneva Limited Edition is a solid screw-down caseback bearing an engraving of the popular Geneva landmark ‘Jet d’Eau’. You can also see its limited edition number ranging between 001 and 310, a nod to the fact that there are only 310 pieces available – a number that matches the water resistance for the same Geneva-themed reason.
Hidden behind the caseback is the calibre RW4200, which is based on the Sellita SW200 and has a 38-hour power reserve. If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a thousand times, the power reserve is a little underwhelming but it makes up for it with solid work horse dependability and ease of repair.

I can say without a doubt that the Raymond Weil Freelancer Diver Geneva Limited Edition is the best Raymond Weil launch of the year and one that has my pulse beating a little faster than usual.
