Boutique exclusives are nothing new – just look at the Bucherer Tudor – but an E-boutique exclusive? That’s something worth talking about, especially when it comes from Panerai.
The Luminor Submersible Acciaio PAM00731 displays everything watch collectors love about the historically Italian watchmaker. Of the two models at the core of Panerai – the other being Radiomir – the Luminor is the more extreme, the closer to a professional instrument. This version is no exception.
The 44mm steel case is nicely-sized and weighty and capped with a unidirectional rotating bezel a world away from the usual diving scales that cover the hundreds of submariner variations out there. It’s almost industrial in style and works perfectly with the crown guard.
Both bezel and crown guard have an immensely satisfying mechanical feel, especially the latter which is equipped with a lever that you’ll find yourself mildly obsessed with at first.
The most distinctive departure however is the blue dial. Granted blue isn’t exactly groundbreaking but given Panerai’s usual fixation on black, white and very occasionally vintage brown, the boutique edition is something special.
The colour in question ranges from the mid hue of the Cote d’Azur to the inky navy blue of the deep sea depending on the light. It’s fitting seeing as the watch also has a water resistance of 300m.
The Luminor Submersible Acciaio PAM00731 is limited to just 100 pieces worldwide so you might want to get in there quick; if there’s ever a Panerai to digitally impulse buy, this is it.
