Rolex’s little sister knocked it out of the park earlier this year with the creation of the Black Bay Bronze, one of the finest looking diving watches of the moment. Now it seems they’ve done it again – this time with esteemed haven of all things watch related, Bucherer.
Bucherer are unique among retailers. Not only do they have a heritage to rival most maisons and watch houses, but the range of pieces they offer – particularly at their Parisian flagship store – is breathtaking.
Yet every now and then they produce something truly special, something that only they in their eminence have the leverage to produce: the Bucherer Blue Editions. The collection comprises of some of watchmaking’s most iconic pieces given a twist with Bucherer’s own livery. In the past the collection has included the likes of Audemars Piguet and Panerai. Now, it’s Tudor’s turn.
Taking as the base that phenomenal Black Bay Bronze, the bezel and case have been given the Bucherer treatment with mid blue highlights. The result is spectacular. It seems that bronze works far more with blue than anyone could have expected – at least, that’s what it seems given the rarity of that particular colourway.
Inside it’s the same watch as the standard Black Bay Bronze, meaning Tudor’s in-house movement built to withstand the rigours of the ocean surrounded by a case that makes the bronze steamers of old seem fragile by comparison.
This isn’t just a beautiful edition of a spectacular watch – though it certainly is that. It shows that however easy it is to disregard Tudor as a Rolex diffusion brand, they’re well up to playing with the big boys. The only downside? You’ll need to add the price of a Euro Star ticket on to the Euro 3,750 price tag.
