William Wood Valiant Bronze Ruby Watch Giveaway

William Wood Ruby Bronze

We’re giving away a watch! All subscribers to our print magazine (before June 1st 2023) will be entered into a competition to win a William Wood Valiant Bronze Ruby dive watch. This is part of a new bi-annual competition we’re establishing for new and returning subscribers (as this is the first competition all existing subscribers will be included). Make sure not to miss out by subscribing to the magazine here. But what exactly is this watch that we’re giving away, let’s take a closer look at the William Wood Bronze Ruby.

William Wood Ruby Bronze

Beyond the thematic elements, it has a classic diving watch design. A 41mm diameter case made from bronze with an aluminium insert diving bezel. The dial is incredibly legible with a combination of circular and rounded baton indexes in the cut-out sandwich style. Crucially, the sublayer and hands are coated with SuperLuminova for excellent readability in low light conditions.

As for the colour, well you can’t go wrong with fire engine red. It really complements the bronze case and fits with the aesthetic of the piece. It also gives the piece its name, Bronze Ruby. There’s also a purple edition called the Bronze Amethyst, which totally changes the personality. The red of the Ruby feels adventurous and ready for any occasion.

Turning the watch over reveals a few things. Firstly, there’s a sapphire exhibition caseback that reveals the movement housed inside. Secondly, we see the inscription 69/200 that denotes the fact that this is one of the Bronze Ruby special editions, which means it was one of the first 200 pieces to be created and released. That’s important because it’s this exact watch we’re giving away.

The movement that’s visible is the Seiko NH35 automatic, a staple calibre from the Japanese manufacture. It sports a 41-hour power reserve and an accuracy of -20/+40 seconds per day. It would of course be nice to see William Wood expand to higher spec calibres, but this is a really solid movement at this price point – the Bronze Ruby being £920. Of course, for one Oracle Time Subscriber, it will be free.
