If there’s one time of year you can really indulge its Christmas. Whether you’re stocking up your liquor cabinet in anticipation of after-dinner drinks or want to find the perfect present for a connoisseur of all things distilled, here are our favourite festive tipples ahead of the 25th December. Dickens may have stuck to three spirits, but we’re going all the way to ten.

1. Appleton Estate 30-Year-Old Jamaica Rum, £399

Appleton Estate 30-Year-Old Jamaica Rum

Distinguished. Decadent. One of a kind, in fact. Forget crappy spiced rum and unaged white paint stripper; this is a serious spirit for a serious connoisseur. With notes of vanilla, toasted oak, ginger and warm cinnamon, it’s like sipping on Jamaican sunshine. You’re welcome.

2. Absolut Elyx, £69.99

Absolut Elyx Vodka

We’ve all had plenty of Absolut in our time, but Elyx kicks things up a notch or three. It’s manually distilled in a copper still to create the kind of rich and smooth taste vodka never has. Coined as being ‘liquid silk’, this edition has a unique and supple texture to it that works as well in a martini as neat.

3. The Macallan Triple Cask Matured, £200

Macallan 18 Year Old Triple Cask

Founded in 1824, The Macallan is one of the most admired whiskies in the world so this 18-year-old single malt is a must-have. It’s not a dram to swallow at the end of a hard day but a whisky to celebrate. Nuanced and, given its age, surprisingly delicate, it represents the epitome of Macallan’s balanced house style – the style that’d made it an icon of scotch.

4. The Glenlivet Captain’s Reserve, £48

Glenlivet Captain’s Reserve

Heading back down towards the daily drinking end of the whisky spectrum, this single malt is finished in high-quality Cognac casks, with the sweet flavours of pears, raisins and mandarins coming through, mixed with spicy notes of cinnamon and liquorice. It’s a whisky for cognac drinkers and a transition for whisky drinkers. Better yet, it’s a damn good dram.

5. Craft Gin Club Subscription, £160 onwards

Craft Gin Club Subscription

There are a lot of gins out there nowadays. Too many, some might say. We’d say just enough. This subscription helps keep abreast with all the ginny going’s on, with each month’s box including a full-sized bottle of one of the world’s finest small batch gins, as well as mixers, cocktail ingredients and snacks. 6. Gran Patrón Platinum, £225Gran Patrón Plantinu

If any tequila is going to change your mind about the spirit, it’s Gran Patron. Produced from the highest-quality Weber blue agave plants, grown in the Highlands of Jalisco, this tequila is triple-distilled and then rested in oak tanks for 30 days to ensure it is extraordinarily smooth and full-bodied. With notes of citrus, it’s a stunning sipping tequila without a plastic sombrero in sight.

7. L’Orbe Vodka, £49.50

L’Orbe Vodka

Want to feel like a Russian oligarch without the oil money? This is definitely the drink for you: the world’s first caviar-infused vodka. Using a bespoke and revolutionary infusion technique (we hope it’s more than just mashing the two together), this is perfect for vodka enthusiasts, epicureans and lovers of extravagance all. You don’t even need to bother with the usual caviar pairing either.

8. Silent Pool Gin Gift Set, £67

Silent Pool Gin Gift Set

Not all gins are created equal and this is a gin you don’t want to keep quiet about. Silent Pool Gin is extraordinarily full-bodied and fresh, produced with 24 unique botanicals with layers of lavender and chamomile. It leans more on the floral than the herbaceous or citrus, so adds an intriguing twist to your usual classic cocktails. It also comes in a beautiful gift set, though we’d forgive you for wanting to keep it for yourself.

9. Bowmore 27 Year Old, £410

Bowmore 27 Year Old Whisky

Matured in ex-bourbon barrels for the first 13 years of its existence, this is the final release in the Vintner’s Trilogy from Bowmore, Islay’s oldest distillery. Over the next 14 years, it spent it’s time in port pipes, to get its rich, fruity and spiced taste. It could spend the next 14 in your own spirit collection, though it’ll be a stretch to last a year. Trust us when we say it’s lost none of that typical Islay peat, it’s just a little more nuanced than the usual saline smack in the face.

10. Neptune Rum, £37.95

 Neptune Gold (700ml, 40%abv)

The intense and full-bodied flavour of Neptune rum makes it perfect for drinking over ice or in a cocktail concoction this Christmas – eggnog, anyone? This three-year-old Bajan rum is made traditionally with local molasses, so expect the sweet sweet taste of island life – a bit of winter sunshine in a glass. I think we can all agree it’s very much needed.
