Spinnaker Launch 47+3 Phantoms SP-5170 Fleuss Automatic Seconde/Seconde/ 2025 Edition

Parisian artiest Seconde/Seconde/, aka Romain André,  has produced a lot of watch designs at this point but one of the surprise megahits has been the 50 Phantoms series he has designed in partnership with Spinnaker, a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms spoof. The debut model was released in 2023 and then in 2024 they released a follow-up collection that included the ‘No App’ edition. Now, in 2025 we have a new version, the 47+3 Phantoms SP-5170 Fleuss Automatic Seconde/Seconde/.

As the name suggests, the 47+3 phantoms doesn’t have 50 phantoms on its dial anymore, as three of them have wandered off to elsewhere on the watch. And yes, I counted every ghost on the dial to make sure there are in fact only 47. The remaining three are hidden and secret, but it shouldn’t be too hard to spot their glowing, luminescent eyes if you look at the flanks of the case, underside of the lugs, and on the rotor. They’re now possessing parts of the watch rather than floating across its dial.

One of the biggest changes though with the 47+3 Phantoms is that it is moving away from its Blancpain parody roots. Most notably the bezel, which was once a near perfect replica of the Blancpain, is now a sunray brushed steel ring with a wavy structure like the lower edge of a sheet-covered phantom’s body. The dial has also moved away from the Blancpain-esque circular hour markers in favour of bar indexes. For the first time it also features a grainy texture in grey.

Other changes include the fact that this is the first 50 Phantoms watch to be offered in multiple sizes. It’s available at 40mm (Phantom Steel) and 43mm (Phantom White), the bulkier size leaning into its dive watch aesthetic. Though the water resistance of 150m means it’s technically more suited to swimming than heading to extreme depths. More than enough though for day-to-day life, or should that be un-life?

Because of the difference in sizes, they also house different movements. The 40mm uses the Miyota 9015 while the 43mm uses the Seiko NH35. Amusingly that also means that while the 43mm is the bigger of the two, it’s also the lower priced at $475 (approx. £355) compared to $525 (approx. £390). In terms of availability, the release is being handled in two waves. Batch 1 is a limited edition of 1,050 40mm watches and 1,150 43mm watches and then batch 2 will be made to order during a limited time period for anyone who missed the initial launch.
