Seiko has finally made it official. After years of fan-made nicknames and red-and-blue bezels pillaged from Rolex’s GMT Master, the brand has partnered with Pepsi for real. The result? Two limited edition Seiko 5 Sports watches, one GMT, one diver, that lean into the colour scheme collectors have loved since the 90s SKX days.
There are two watches, both of which are limited to 7000 pieces, the blacked out Seiko 5 Sports x Pepsi GMT Limited Edition SSK047 and the silver-white Seiko 5 Sports x Pepsi Limited Edition SRPL99 dive watch.
5 Sports x Pepsi SKX GMT Limited Edition

The SSK047 feels like the more modern take, referencing the current black Pepsi branding colour scheme it’s also the larger of the two. With its 42.5 x 13.5mm black case, black dial and matching black textured silicone strap and clasp its channelling Pepsi Max vibes.

The silicone strap is a first for a Seiko SKX GMT and features further Pepsi detail. Powered by the 4R34 calibre, a workhorse ‘caller’ GMT movement with a 41-hour power reserve and paired with the rotating bezel it gives you the option to track three time zones, which is made even easier thanks to the colourful GMT hand.

The SRPL99 on the other hand feels more nostalgic. A 38mm dive-style watch, it’s based on a 1990s Seiko 5 and features the retro Pepsi logo. Measuring 38mm x 12.1mm the proportions are spot-on for a mid-sized wrist and with the reliable 4R36 automatic movement makes for a great daily driver. It’s less of a true diver with its 100m water resistance (the same as the SSK047), but paired with a steel oyster-style bracelet, it nails the old-school charm.
The SSK047 and SRPL99 both feature exhibition casebacks bearing the Pepsi logo and limited-edition numbering but perhaps most appealing, each model is packaged in a matching can for authenticity.

Priced at £470 for the SSK047 GMT and £330 pounds for the SRPL99 diver. The former goes on sale on the 5th of September and the latter on the 1st. With bold styling and collector appeal, they won’t hang around for long – even if they are (not so) limited to 7,000 pieces each.

Personally, I don’t get the whole thing of linking watches to non related companies, in this case, having the Pepsi name on the dial looks like a giveaway “reward” to retailers for shifting a large quantity of their product. I know the price of this watch is way down towards the bottom end, but it is what it is, – it looks cheap with the logo.
Love it, think I am going to go for the silver one!!
