The commute into the Square Mile is, put simply, hell on Earth, with 350,000 making their way to the finance centre of London. Well, that commute could be a thing of the past thanks to the Heron. Granted, if you can afford this £9.5 million apartment you probably have your own tube line, but still, it’s a nice aspiration to have.
The development as a whole you’ll have walked past many a time. It’s the sister tower to Sushi Samba and Duck and Waffle, a domineering block of 285 apartments right next to the cultural hub that is the Barbican Centre. Indeed, if culture’s your thing, the lower floors of the Heron have been given over to the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and their concert hall.
As for the South Penthouse itself… well, it’s spectacular, of course. Measuring a grandiose 6,000 square feet with four bedrooms and bathrooms, the duplex apartment is filled with light through its massive floor-to-ceiling windows. The interiors have been handled by United Designers, with a combination of soft, comfortable furnishings and some distinctly modern touches to add a bit of flair.
The views through those windows are breathtaking. The upper level gives reason to never bother taking the lift to the ground 35 floors down, with a retractable roof, gym and potentially a screening room, too. If you give that space over to something else though, you can always use the one at the private residents’ club – that and the bar, concierge and landscaped gardens that are also included. If location is everything, the Heron’s South Penthouse has it all; even if it’s not, the apartment ticks off every checklist you care to put to it. Views, space and phenomenal contemporary design, all in the Square Mile itself. What more could you want?
