Last year, Patek Philippe launched the Ref. 5204R-011 with a slate grey dial and rose gold case. It stood out as an oddity among Patek’s other releases at the time because it was the only one that wasn’t green. Now though, the 5204 has received its long awaited green colourway in the form of the new Patek Philippe Ref. 5204G-001 Split-Seconds Chronograph Perpetual Calendar.
There are two main updates to this new colourway. Firstly, and this may shock you, it’s got a green dial. It’s a very, very desaturated tone that could almost be mistaken for grey except for when you look at it side-by-side with a true grey dialled piece. The olive-green leather strap helps to bring out some of the green tone but even then, it’s still very faded. This is by no means a bad thing as it adds a subtlety to the design that rich emerald colours lack.
The other update is the case material, which is now white gold. It gives the piece a totally different visual impact to the previous 5204 in rose gold, brighter and more modern in contrast to the slightly dressier elegance of the older model.
As is to be expected, the Ref. 5204G-001 houses the Calibre CHR 29535 PS Q manual movement with 65-hour power reserve and split-seconds chronograph and perpetual calendar complications. As also expected, its price reflects its Grand Complication status: £254,270.
