Omega Update Speedmaster 38 For 2026 with 7 New References

OMEGA Speedmaster 38

The Speedmaster 38 is much as you would expect it: a smaller and more dressy interpretation of Omega’s iconic chronograph. As part of that, it has softer oval chronograph subcounters and a thinner, more elegant bezel. However, that’s changing. Omega has extended the Speedmaster 38mm collection with seven new references that reintroduce some of the bolder, sporty elements of the original Moonwatch design.

Starting with the case, its overall proportions haven’t changed significantly measuring 38mm in diameter with a thickness of 14.75mm. That does make it a surprisingly thick watch for being the ‘dressier’ version of the Speedmaster but that’s always been the case even with the previous models. It’s a symptom of chronographs where traditionally multiple mechanisms are stacked on top of each other. There is a major update to the case though and that’s the new bezel, which is thicker and more prominent to bring it in line with the Moonwatch – also introducing the dot-over-ninety detail from the original.

It’s a similar story across the dial where the structure is familiar with tricompax chronograph subdials and a date at 6 o’clock (except for one of the references that is dateless), but everything is sharper and sportier. The oval subdials are now circles while the oval date window has been squared off. Ultimately, these changes create a sharper, cleaner aesthetic that does make the collection feel like a smaller version of the Moonwatch rather than an estranged cousin.

As noted, there are seven references in this updated collection. Going through them all, we have: black with steel accents (dateless), white with blue accents, white with grey and Sedna gold accents, white with green and Moonshine gold accents, ivory with coffee brown and Sedna gold accents, mother-of-pearl with diamond bezel, light blue with diamond bezel. Call me a traditionalist but I like the black version best.

For the movements, the date models use the calibre 3330 and the dateless version uses the calibre 3332. They’re functionally the same except for that difference in complications. They operate at 4 Hz with a 52-hour power reserve and as this is Omega, both of them are COSC chronometers.

The Omega Speedmaster 38 collection for 2026 is priced between £5,500 – £11,000 depending on the combination of materials and gems featured on each specific reference. Also, lucky for me, it’s the black dateless version that’s at the bottom of that price bracket at £5,500. It’s presented on an updated five-link steel bracelet inspired by the Moonwatch as well, bolstering that similarity to the original.

Workin' 9 to 5, what a way to make a livin'
Barely gettin' by, it's all takin' and no givin'
They just use your mind and they never give you credit
It's enough to drive you crazy if you let it
9 to 5, for service and devotion
You would think that I would deserve a fair promotion
Want to move ahead, but the boss won't seem to let me

A last note is that lots of the previous references in this collection have been retired, but not all of them – it’s predominantly the full gold and diamond editions that remain. What do you think of this Speedmaster 38 update?

Is the Omega Speedmaster 38 a Moonwatch?

No. It is a separate collection, but the 2026 update brings its bezel, subdials and bracelet closer to the Moonwatch’s look.

What has changed between the new Speedmaster 38 and the old version?

The oval subdials are now circles. The oval date window is now squared. The bezel is thicker with dot-over-ninety markings. It’s presented on a Moonwatch inspired five-link bracelet.

How big is the Omega Speedmaster 38?

14.75mm thick, 38mm in diameter and 44.96mm lug to lug. That is thicker than the 42mm Moonwatch Professional, a consequence of the stacked automatic chronograph movement, though the shorter lug span makes it sit better on smaller wrists.

Is the Speedmaster 38 a Master Chronometer?

No. Calibres 3330 and 3332 are COSC-certified chronometers rather than METAS Master Chronometer certified, which is unusual for a 2026 Omega launch and the clearest technical gap between this collection and the current Moonwatch.
