There was a time in the distant past when the Defy was an oddity, an outlier in Zenith’s collection. Well, not any more. Last year they launched three new version – including the incredible Ultraviolet, and now they’re continuing their contemporary slant with a khaki-coloured take on the skeleton watch: the Defy 21 Urban Jungle.
It’s not hard to guess where they got the name from. The full ceramic green case would blend right into to a tropical jungle and is rugged enough to survive a solid trek or two. Complete on a matching green rubber strap (it’s actually grey with a green insert, but you get the drift), it’s a stylish take on the Defy.

Inside – and easily visible from the front – is the Zenith El Primero 9004 calibre automatic movement. It’s a serious chronograph, timing down to 1/100th of a second and backed by a 50-hour power reserve.

It’s not a new movement, but then other than the colouring, nothing’s new about this watch. That doesn’t mean it’s boring; the Defy Urban Jungle is far from it. But it does show that Zenith is willing to have some fun with their new flagship timepiece which is always good – especially if this is the result.
