To all intents and purposes, Glashütte is the cradle of Saxon watchmaking, home to the most prestigious horologists in Germany, many of which proudly share the sleepy little town’s name. Nomos Glashütte is, quite obviously, one of those and as the craft in Glashütte hits its 175th anniversary, the Bauhaus brand is paying homage to their home with a trio of limited-edition references in the ever-sporty Club series.
The Club Automatic model is the ideal candidate for the celebration as it’s a landmark timepiece itself. First appearing in 2005 with the DUW 5001 calibre movement, it was Nomos Glashütte’s first ever automatic watch. It was also pretty cool, with a slightly wider diameter of 40mm compared to earlier watches, really going for that more rugged, swim-suitable sports vibe.
The limited-edition versions have largely the same specs as the original Club Automatic but come in three stylish new colourways: onyx, navy and olive. The onyx version has a slick black dial and comes on the brand’s sport bracelet while the blue and green options are provided with textile straps in appropriately matching colours.
The Club Automatic is the epitome of Nomos Glashütte’s own take on Bauhaus watchmaking. On the one hand is that distinctive, utilitarian minimalism, on the other bold numerals echoing American road signs. The whole feel is of a retro sports watch with a twist of Americana.
Each of the three limited edition Club Automatic colourways is limited to 175 pieces, joining the limited-edition Ludwig and Lambda pieces that Nomos Glashütte has already released this year. They’re solid entry-level pieces and the price reflects that, with £1,960 for the navy and olive, and £2,240 for the onyx.
