And so the boxing match between Bucherer and Harrods continues and, in response to the British department store’s last jab – you can read about that shiny new Vacheron here – the Swiss retailer has retaliated. Say hello to the Glashutte Original Senator Excellence Perpetual Calender Bucherer Blue Edition.
As we’ve come to expect as a bare minimum, this new version of the Senator is liveried in Bucherer’s signature blue in a beautifully grained finish. There are a few other tweaks however. For once, the Roman numerals have been replaced with pointed indexes; for another, the hands have been altered and elongated to better suit the 42mm case.
Other than those tweaks though, there’s nothing really new about the Bucherer Blue Edition. Still, you don’t need a drastic change to make it a lovely watch. The perpetual calendar is there in full force with a particularly good-looking moon phase at 7:30.
The various indicators are all powered by the same calibre 36-02, a deceptively modern movement. Sure it has traditional Glashutte finishing with plenty of stripes and snailing, but it’s equipped with silicon components and a strong, 100-hour power reserve.
The new blue limited edition is limited to just 50 examples which are, of course, only available through Bucherer boutiques. So what’s the price tag for this contemporary take on a classic watch? The Senator Excellence Perpetual Calendar in it’s shiny new blue will set you back Eur 20,000.
