New Releases Watches

Introducing: Doxa SUB 300 COSC

Doxa SUB 300 COSC

Doxa’s SUB 300 is one of the cult classic 60s divers, made famous by Cousteau and crew and an enduring classic to this day – this day being the day that the Neuchatel-based dive specialists reissue the famous watch with the new SUB 300 COSC.

Yes, yes, these watches aren’t new per se; a couple years back Doxa released a near-identical set of pieces celebrating 50 years of the SUB 300. They however were far more limited, both in numbers of actual pieces and in the colours those pieces were available in.

Doxa SUB 300 Professional

Not only is the latest SUB 300 available in all six Doxa colours – which are, deep breath, black, blue, aqua, silver, yellow and of course the brand’s signature orange – but it’s now a permanent, much-needed addition to the core collection. As I missed out on the limited editions, I’m more than happy to see them enter the fray once again, especially as the 42.5mm stainless steel, lozenge-shaped case is retro design bliss.

There are a few changes here and there, including the dial font and colour-matched diving scale, but otherwise it’s identical. That also means a solid, slimmed down, COSC-certified ETA 2824-2 automatic movement which impacts the depth of the case slightly. The new SUB 300 is certainly at top of Doxa’s fleet pricewise, clocking in at £2,390 for the bracelet version.

Doxa SUB 300 Aquamarine

I say bracelet version because the watch also comes, for the first time, on both a comfortable beads of rice (a hybrid mesh / link) bracelet and dial-matched rubber straps – just in case the orange, yellow and aqua weren’t bright enough for you already.

All in all, it’s good to see Doxa diving into their heritage once again and, while it won’t replace a proper vintage number in any collections, hopefully these pieces will get more people recognising Doxa for the underwater legend they are, without the need for a limited edition number.
