Christopher Ward Inaugural Military Watch Collection

Every country’s proud of their armed forces and apparently the same goes for watch brands too, at least if Christopher Ward is anything to go by. Their new three-piece military collection resents a trio of timepieces, each dedicated to a branch of the British military.

If that sounds familiar then you’re not wrong. It was just a handful of months ago that Bremont did much the same thing as an official partner of the British Armed Forces. But then Christopher Ward has made their name imitating what makes other watches tick – and then making them their own. This trio is no different.

Christopher Ward C65 Dartmouth Series 1

First up the C65 Dartmouth Series 1, named after the Royal Navy’s training academy. It’s no secret that the watch is inspired by the Omega Seamaster 300, but more specifically the ‘Big Triangle’ model commissioned by the MoD in the 1960s.

Christopher Ward C65 Dartmouth Series 1

It’s a solid, retro diving watch with a 41mm stainless steel case and all the bells a whistles needed for a true diving watch, including a 150m depth rating. The blue dial hammers home the Seamaster relationship even further, building on a classic.

Christopher Ward C65 Sandhurst Series 1

Christopher Ward C65 Sandhurst Series 1

Second it’s the army’s turn with the C65 Sandhurst Series 1. A much more vintage watch here with its take on the iconic Dirty Dozen pieces of WW2. It’s designed for functionality in the face of artillery, meaning a black dial with white numerals and a 35mm stainless steel case.

It’s the most minimal of the pieces in the Military Collection, reliable, legible and that’s about it. Flip it over and you’ll see the heraldic badge of the British army, though I’m sure most graduates passing out of Sandhurst will have slightly pricier pieces on their wrists. It comes with the territory.

Christopher Ward C65 Cranwell Series 1

Finally there’s the C65 Cranwell Series 1, citing the world’s first air academy. Based off the legendary Jaeger-LeCoultre Mark XI and IWC Mark XI, it’s the finest imitator of the three in this collection. At 41mm it’s the same size as the diver, but leaves more space for the dial which itself has a more technical feel like a vintage cockpit instrument.

All three pieces are technically similar, containing the Sellita SW200 calibre COSC certified automatic movement with a 38-hour power reserve. They all have the same depth resistance too, meaning the only choice between them is which member of the armed forces you’d like to represent.
