Hermès New Slim d’Hermès Stately Wheels Takes A Drive to Buckingham Palace

Hermès Slim d'Hermès Stately Wheels

London and the UK is being spoiled for choice when it comes to interesting watch launches this summer. Not only have we just had Hands On Horology which saw 45+ brands descend on the city with special editions and reveals galore, but also Arnold & Son and now Hermès have released a Metiers d’Art watch dedicated to their new New Bond Street location. While Arnold & Son’s tribute focussed on the skyline, Hermès are focussing on royalty with the new Slim d’Hermès Stately Wheels.

It features a miniature painting of Queen Alexandra’s State Coach alongside a pair of drivers with vibrant red reins. It’s immaculately detailed with precise application of colour against a pure white backdrop. There’s also a sense of motion provided by the rotating tourbillon cage at 7 o’clock, which is roped to the wheels of the coach like the belt of an engine. It converts the dial from a static tableau into an active scene.

Housing the dial is a 39.5mm diameter case in platinum. It’s a very sharp, clean design with a round, polished bezel, a well-proportioned, knurled crown and polished lugs. Classy and dressy without being over the top or distracting. The lugs connect to a graphite grey alligator leather strap, a classic combination for a dress watch.

Powering the watch is the Manufacture Hermès H1950 T movement, offering a 48-hour power reserve. It’s a time only calibre equipped with hours and minutes, as well as the focal tourbillon. It’s also automatic with a self-winding rotor for added convenience.

The Hermès Slim d’Hermès Stately Wheels is limited to just 6 pieces in honour of new boutique’s location at 166 New Bond Street. A fitting tribute to the city that also ties in thematically to the Hermès logo and broader Stately Wheel motif that they’ve used on scarves and other luxury items previously.
