The world of UFC occasionally spills into the watch industry, mostly due to a certain Conor McGregor. However, McGregor isn’t the only UFC fighter with an impressive watch collection, as shown by the wrist-buddy of Khamzat Chimaev during the promotion of his recent title win to become world middleweight champion. The watch in question is the Designa Individual Watches Black Grail.
If you’re not a follower of UFC, Chimaev is likely a name you are unfamiliar with but just know he has been one of the most inexorable and dramatic fighters across his career. Currently undefeated with 15 wins, his road to the title felt more like an inevitability than a challenge at times. The only thing stopping him winning the title sooner was the relatively slow schedule of his matches with only one or two fights per year. A formidable figure to be sure.

The Designa Individual Watches Black Grail is equally formidable. A customised Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711 with a carbon fibre construction across its bezel and bracelet. The 5711 is the most sought after reference of the Nautilus and its discontinuation a few years ago left collectors in shambles. It has a cool, urban vibe that suits the attitude of the UFC with its black DLC coated case below that signature carbon porthole bezel.
It’s earned the moniker Black Grail, a stealthy interpretation of the ultimate grail watch that collectors covet – much like Chimaev has coveted the world championship. It’s also quite the flex with a price tag of €184,990 and a limited annual production of just 5 pieces per year. Thankfully the price includes the cost of the 5711 that will be customised. No surprise that Khamzat has been as proud to show off the watch as the championship belt.
