For anyone unfamiliar with Collective Horology, they are a community of watch enthusiasts in California who collaborate with watchmakers to produce limited editions that are made available exclusively to their members. Their latest watch, the C.03 Pilot’s Watch Chronograph, is a subtle yet significant twist on an IWC. It has been created to celebrate the group’s international expansion, including their availability in the UK for the first time.
As the name suggests, the watch itself is a limited edition version of an IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph. Specifically, it’s inspired by the IW3706, the first Pilot’s Watch Chronograph, although the base of the watch is actually the modern equivalent. That means the C.03’s stainless steel case measures a modern 41mm as opposed to 39mm. The brushed finish is lovely and it has an open caseback.
The dial includes a German day-date function, a classic trio of subdials and swaps the stark white numerals and scales for a pale shade of grey on the matte black background. The decrease in contrast does slightly reduce the legibility, but that’s forgivable because the subdued tones give the Pilot’s Watch a quasi-military flavour.
Then we have the movement, the IWC manufacture calibre 69385. It’s an automatic movement with a 46-hour power reserve that powers the chronograph function, small seconds, day-date function, 12-hour timer and 30-minute timer.
In keeping with the monochromatic colour scheme of the dial, the rotor is also black and the whole movement looks great through the caseback.
Only 125 C.03 Pilot’s Watch Chronographs will be available, exclusively through Collective Horology. If you want one you’ll have to become a member and then the watch itself costs £6,450. But you also get so much more than just a watch because you’ll be part of one of the most exciting watch enthusiast groups going.
