Christopher Ward Release C63 Sealander Lucerne Blue Limited Edition at 39mm

Earlier this year Christopher Ward released a new collection of C63 Sealanders at 36mm. They were bright, summer watches following in the bold footsteps of timepieces like the Rolex Oyster Perpetual. However, one model in particular was the most sought after, the Lucerne Blue edition. And so now the 39mm C63 Sealander is receiving a Lucerne Blue edition as well.

The trend that led to the Lucerne Blue version being so incredibly popular is well documented at this point, so I’ll tell it in brief. Last year Patek Philippe released the Tiffany Nautilus which reminded everyone how good the colour is. But since the Nautilus was extremely limited and Rolex’s supply chain is still recovering making the Oyster Perpetual Tiffany blue unobtainable (incidentally there’s some interesting news Rolex are planning to expand their factory operations), people have been trying to get their turquoise fix from elsewhere.

Ultimately, the C63 Sealander 39mm is building on this trend that Christopher Ward have already proven with the 36mm. The larger watch is virtually identical with a stainless steel case and smooth bezel. It’s presented on either a blue leather strap or steel bracelet, which leans into its classy sporting elegance.

However, the dial is the focal point of the watch with its signature blue lacquer. It’s called Lucerne Blue after the crystal clear waters of Lake Lucerne in Switzerland. It has a richness to its saturation that makes the colour feel full and bold.

Beneath the dial and visible through the exhibition caseback is the Swiss Sellita movement SW200-1 Automatic. It’s a staple of many brands, Christopher Ward included and has solid accuracy and reliability, although the power reserve is a little sub-par at 38-hours. Although the trade-off is a more accessible price point.
