Introducing the Cartier Tank Louis Cartier The Watches of Switzerland 100 Years Anniversary Limited Edition

Cartier Tank Louis Cartier The Watches Of Switzerland 100 Years Anniversary Limited Edition WGTA0213

Watches of Switzerland is one of the most prominent names in wristwatch retail here in the UK, with showrooms scattered throughout London as well as major cities and airports across the country. Plus, that’s on top of a large online retail presence. They were founded in 1924, meaning 2024 marks their centenary, a major occasion they’re celebrating with a collaboration watch with Cartier. It’s the Cartier Tank Louis Cartier Watches of Switzerland 100 Years Anniversary Limited Edition.

First off, this watch is gorgeous. It has the classic rectangular case of the Tank Louis Cartier measuring 25.5mm in width and 33.7mm in height, so it’s nice and svelte. Although Cartier actually list that sizing as the large variant of the Louis Cartier. It’s perfectly sized for the renewed interest in smaller dimensions and vintage sized watches. The case itself is made from 18k yellow gold for that classic luxury feel.

The dial features a sunray brushed finish with Roman numerals in the 12 and 6 o’clock positions only. It’s sort of a hybrid between Cartier’s traditional Art Deco display and their numberless variants. It’s a really smart design for a collaboration watch because it feels like a unique twist on the Cartier formula – giving you more of a reason to actually add the watch to your collection. Completing the display are the blued steel hour and minute hands, which match the colour of the sapphire cabochon in the crown.

Powering the Louis Cartier Watches of Switzerland 100 Years Anniversary is the Cartier Manufacture calibre 1917MC, a manual movement with a 38-hour power reserve. The choice of the reference number 1917 is itself a reference to the year 1917, which is when the first Tank debuted.  Although the Louis Cartier version of the Tank was released a few years later in 1922. It therefore makes sense that Watches of Switzerland would turn to this model to celebrate their 1924 anniversary since the two things are very close in age. There’s an inscription in honour of the anniversary on the solid caseback as well as the limited-edition number.

That limited edition number is out of the 100 pieces that are being produced for the centenary. They’re also exclusive to Watches of Switzerland boutiques and available from June. However, if you really love it, then their online pre-orders are open now. Adding to the exclusivity is the price of £12,700. But then I think that price is justified by the quality of the watch, the gold case, the exclusivity and frankly the fact that it looks great. I don’t think there’s anything not to love here.
